I have read a lot of books in this huge series of the Remingtons and Bradens but not this one- it came free on Amazon so I clicked on it. I love Melissa's work. Dex is a computer game creator who runs into Ellie the girl he fell in love with as a child. She was a foster child living next door and they just connected. She could watch him play games for hours. They just got each other. But then she was sent to another family and they lost touch. She showed up at his doorstep 4 years ago for a weekend and disappeared again. Dex has kept his heart closed off because after he told her how he felt about her she left him. Now he finds her in NYC and isn't sure he can trust her. Ellie has had a rough life in the system, gets thru college and her dream teaching job only to find out her boy friend is married. She moves to NYC because it feels like home. She doesn't know if she can let Dex in. Wonderful story- Melissa you sure know how to tell a tale.Product details

I was hooked at the very beginning in The Game of Love by the gorgeous and sexy Dex Remington. He's a good guy with a heart of gold and a body to match.
In walks Ellie, Dex's one and only true love who'd vanished four years earlier, and he is instantly back to being her greatest supporter. Ellie had a rough upbringing. Her foster home experiences had damaged her, and she'd hardened her heart against love altogether. She was basically afraid of love.
The author, Melissa Foster brings us back in time, quite a bit, to give us much, and sometimes too much background. The story seemed to slow down in these sequences, and there's plenty of thinking going on. Perhaps I'm not a good judge for this romance novel due to the fact I enjoy a faster paced novel. However, you may feel differently.
This is my first book from Melissa Foster and although the writing is excellent the storyline was horrendous. I hated the female lead Ellie. She was whiny and immature. She totally didn't deserve Dex. If I had to read about her running away one more time I was going to lose it. I'm not sure what Dex ever saw in her. Ugh. Although the writing was descriptive it was almost too descriptive. It took nine pages for Ellie to walk from her apartment to a bar two blocks away. At times reading was so tedious I almost gave up. Probably will give this author one more try but only five chapters and if those are just as tedious then will give up Melissa Foster.
Game of Love is part of the Love in Bloom Series. This is The Remingtons Book One. Of all the books of Melissa Foster that I have read so far, this is my favorite. Not a lot of hot and steamy sex like all the others but enough. I am no expert. But I think here, it has more emphasis on the story and the development of the characters. And I think, I really liked how this is done.
Did I say I really liked this book? I did. I did like it. One very obvious and silly reason is because just looking at the title reminds me right away of what the story is. Game of Love, the guy was a gamer. That easy. Unlike the other books of Foster, I have to try to recall what the story was and maybe read the summary to recall it. So, the recall factor is really a thing for me. Silly, right? But I love to be able to remember the stories I read right out the bat just by looking at the titles. So, it's kind of a downer if the title is really far from what the book is. Anyway, as I said, the story is not overflowing with sex scenes and is more focused on the development of Ellie and Dex's characters. And I know that I just repeated myself. Their story is not that unique but it has its own appeal. They were best friends and Ellie had a habit of leaving Dex without a peep, without saying goodbye. Dex has been hurt twice by Ellie for being abandoned and left hung out to dry. But he can't still seem to leave Ellie alone. He still wants to be a part of her life.

GAME OF LOVE (The Remingtons #1)

Melissa Foster has become a favorite of mine and this book just reinforced why. My heart broke for Ellie as you get to know her and all that she has gone through in life. Dex shows you that a strong man is always there no matter how many times you mess up or run away his arms will always be there to catch you and hold you when you need the security of someone who loves you. My heart went out to Dex and the hurt he goes through but feeling the soul pain and insecurities that Ellie has and that she has to overcome makes your heart cry. I loved the softness and strength this author shows in the characters and between the characters. She takes you on their journey and makes you feel the struggles and trials that they have to overcome to make their relationship work. Can't wait to read what comes next in this series and from this author.
At just 26 years old Dex Remington is the top PC game developer. Regardless of how fragile is heart still was he couldn't ignore the draw his body had to her.

Sitting in the bar with everything she owned in 1 suitcase the last person she expected to see, at least this soon, was the only guy that she ever gave her trust to, at least as much as she was able. With so much emotional baggage Ellie struggles to truly let anyone in. Yet, when fear strangles her again the one person she knows who will be there is Dex.
This book will take you on a roller coaster ride of emotions as you come to slowly learn more about Rex and Ellie's history. They will have a tough road ahead as both learn to trust and endure as Ellie learns to put her past where it belongs and allow herself to truly trust and accept love into her life. Yet, will her past ever stay behind her?
